WHAT IS ‘HOUSING FIRST’ ?

‘Housing First’ enables homeless people to move into individual, independent and permanent accommodation straight away, rather than offering them different temporary housing (such as shelters or other transitional accommodation). Ongoing, flexible and individual support is offered to beneficiaries for as long as it is needed but on voluntary basis. For example, it does not require the person to stop using drugs or seek treatment for mental health issues in exchange for housing.
